Rescue Me ID: 17-08-14-00472Sage (female)

Pekingese Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This precious baby is Sage. Sage and two friends were dumped in the yard of our veterinarian. We knew these babies needed to be in a home with people who would love them forever, so we made them Stinkers and promised to find that home for them! The vet believes Sage is a Pekingese/Chihuahua mix and that she is about three to four years old. We also suspect she could be a Shih Tzu/Rat terrier mix. Unfortunately, Sage was not well cared for by her previous human and she has lost most of her hair. She is presently being treated for that. Even though she is a doll baby now, she is going to be even more adorable when her hair grows back in! ... (Read More)Sage's foster mom said she is a loving little girl with that small dog spunk. Even though she isn't feeling too great right now, she still wants to cuddle and get love from her foster family. Sage presently lives in a home with an older teenager and plenty of other dogs and she gets along with them all just great! She would probably be best in a home without young children. She is crate trained and house trained. Sage's adoption fee is $175. This includes her dhpp & rabies vaccines, heartworm test and prevention (through date of adoption), flea and tick prevention (through date of adoption), spay, and microchip. If you are interested in making Sage a part of your family, please email us at adoptions@teamstinkykiss.com (Less)

Animal ID: 17-07-08-00287Keebler (male)

Pekingese    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet KEEBLER, a 5 to 6-year-old Pekingese. If you know pekes, you know they can be confident, lively, playful and independent (sometimes stubborn), yet incredibly sensitive, as well as loyal and affectionate if treated well. This is not a dog for children; Keebler will not tolerate rough handling and doesn't respond well to scolding. But get out a biscuit and he'll do just about anything you want him to do. Keebler loves toys and plays well with other small dogs, as long as they don't try to dominate him. He doesn't like bigger dogs. If you appreciate a dog who thrives on mutual respect, this little elf may be the dog for you. Keebler can go ... (Read More)home after he is neutered on July 25. Apply for him online at www.savethestrays.org or email info@savethestrays.org for our application. Adoption fee: $225. (Less)

lnteresting Pekingese Trivia Low-Cost South Carolina Spay & Neuter Clinics
The Pekingese was once believed to be able to ward off evil spirits. Historically, the theft of a Pekingese in China was punished by death. Chinese were once required to bow down to Pekingese. All modern Pekingese are descended from five dogs rescued for Queen Victoria during the Second Opium War. When British troops reached the residence of the Chinese Emperor, the guards killed all but these five dogs to prevent them falling into the hands of the enemy. Pekingese were believed to protect the soul of their master in the afterlife.
