Hello. My name is Carlos. My mommy told me that she was having a new baby and they feel like I may be happier somewhere else. This news made me so sad. However, these nice people took me in and told me they would help me find a new family. I become very attached to my family and very protective of them. For this reason, I would rather not share my attention with children. I would be so happy to show you how much I can love you. Won't you give me a chance?

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-05-00087Butterscotch (male)

Pekingese Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Health: Neutered

Butterscotch is a sweet, typical Dachshund who thinks he's bigger than he is. He even looks bigger in his pictures! (we don't know how he does that), but the secret is out - he is really an 18 lb lap dog! If you are a fan of Dachshunds and familiar with the breed you will love this little guy. Butterscotch's foster had his DNA analyzed and it came back 1/2 Dachshund and 1/4 Pekingese with some other breeds mixed in. So he is not a purebred Dachshund but that is most definitely his defining breed. Butterscotch is around 2 -3 years old and came to us heartworm positive but has been treated and is now free of heartworms! He will need to ... (Read More)continue to be on monthly heartworm prevention, as all dogs should. Butterscotch is currently in a foster homes with several dogs in a range of sizes and he has settled in nicely, however he does take time to warm up to other dogs and his adopter will need to be mindful of a slow introduction if there are other dogs in the home. He would do better as an only dog or as a companion to a submissive dog. He absolutely loves one of the gentle hounds that he lives with. We do not know how he would be with cats but expect he would not do well unless the cat was very dog-savvy and paid him no mind. Butterscotch loves to curl up in your lap and let you rub him. He loves to be held. He is treat motivated and eager to please. When he gets nervous, he will growl or snap, but it is only because he is scared. His adopter will need to give this little guy some time to settle in and get comfortable. Once he settles in, he will love you forever. We are looking for a quiet home, without small children, where Butterscotch can relax and be the center of your world (as long as you don't let him become the boss!). If you are familiar with Dachshunds, you will know exactly what he needs. This cutie is crate trained, and does best if the crate is covered (which offers security and a 'den-like' feel). He would do best with a fenced in yard where he can do his hound sniffing and get his zoomies out. He's a little guy so the fence needs to be secure to the ground with no gaps! He is still working on his house training. He is currently in a home with two other dominant male dogs which still mark their territory and his biggest issue is marking over them. If he were in a home without this 'challenge' he may very well be fine. He will potty outside, but will need to have a routine established for him when he goes to his new home. With a little effort in the beginning to establish a routine, he should transition to being completely house trained in no time. Thank you for reading all about Butterscotch. He is a great little guy who deserves a great home. We hope this information will help you to decide if Butterscotch might be a match for you. If you think he will be, we welcome your application! ************************************************************************* ADOPT OR FOSTER: Please see our home page for links to our applications: CONTACT US: JOIN US ON FACEBOOK: VISIT OUR WEBSITE for information on UPCOMING ADOPTION EVENTS. lnteresting Pekingese Trivia Low-Cost North Carolina Spay & Neuter Clinics
The Pekingese was once believed to be able to ward off evil spirits. All modern Pekingese are descended from five dogs rescued for Queen Victoria during the Second Opium War. When British troops reached the residence of the Chinese Emperor, the guards killed all but these five dogs to prevent them falling into the hands of the enemy. Pekingese were believed to protect the soul of their master in the afterlife.
