Schroeder: 1 year old pekingese/chihuahua; 10 lbs; great with dogs/people/older kids Meet Schroeder! He's an adorable 10 lbs, 1 year old pekingese/chihuahua who's got a perky little face and an irresistible underbite. He's feisty and lively and so very affectionate. He loves playing whether it's with toys, other dogs or people; but he quickly ceases racing around if he knows he's going to be picked up and get some loving. He's somewhat timid initially when meeting new people, particularly men; but after a few minutes, his happy-go-lucky personality emerges. Schroeder is a smart fellow and is eager to please so will learn quickly; ... (Read More)however, he is also a bit stubborn so will need some boundaries in his new home. He thinks it's great fun to engage in a game of 'catch me if you can', which is hilarious unless you're in a hurry ... his timing isn't always the best! He is still a bit mouthy when wrestling or trying to get attention so will need to continue learning that chewing should only be done on toys and bones. Because of his initial shyness and small size, he would not do well in a home with children younger than 10 years of age. Schroeder is a super boy who is going to be a great addition to someone's home. His adoption fee is $200; he's neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations. (Less)

lnteresting Pekingese Trivia Low-Cost Indiana Spay & Neuter Clinics
The Pekingese was once believed to be able to ward off evil spirits. Historically, the theft of a Pekingese in China was punished by death. All modern Pekingese are descended from five dogs rescued for Queen Victoria during the Second Opium War. When British troops reached the residence of the Chinese Emperor, the guards killed all but these five dogs to prevent them falling into the hands of the enemy. Pekingese were believed to protect the soul of their master in the afterlife.
