Rescue Me ID: 16-02-02-00047Teddy (male)

Pekingese    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

Wow, where to begin with Teddy. Teddy has touched our hearts in a way that not many do. He was hit by a car and left to die. On top of that he has terrible arthritis everywhere in his body. When he was found as a stray in a ditch, in Texas, it was unclear if he was alive. A wonderful woman rushed him to the shelter to try and get him the help he needed. The shelter immediately put him under and shaved him, assuming that his matts were the reason he could not move. After he was shaved and woke up they realized he still could not walk. They did x-rays and determined that his vertebrae were fused together from an old accident, and that ... (Read More)he had sever arthritis. They figured it would just be easiest to euthanize little Teddy, but we decided to take him into our rescue and get a second opinion. Our vet told us that Teddy would most likely not be able to walk again, but that he was not in pain and could still live a good life. Since then, Teddy has been in a foster home and is making more progress than we ever thought possible. He still has lots of trouble walking, but he can take a few steps at a time, and even follow his foster mom around the house, or at least get the places where he can watch her. We are so proud of this little guy because he is such a fighter and is working so hard. We ordered him a wheel chair and think he will be much happier in it since he always seems to want to be included, but just has a hard time 'making to the party' in time. We believe that with more therapy and encouragement that Teddy's progress will keep going up. We are so excited to see what this little guy will be capable of a year from now. Our rescue has payed for everything for him, and would like to keep paying for physical therapy. We would just love to find a home for him where someone can keep working with him and knows how rewarding it will be. Teddy wants nothing more than to sit on someones lap and snuggle/nap. He is a very easy going dog and will tell you when he wants to go pee. All Teddy needs is someone who will sit with him day in and day out and tell him everything will be okay. We do understand that it will be hard work, and that helping this little guy will take a VERY special adopter, but we do believe that there is someone out there just waiting to love a little dog who has been through so much. Teddy eats very well and has a personality that is just amazing. This little guy will never be 'perfect' but we love him because of that. If you are interested in adopting Teddy, please email us for an application at sunshinecanyondr@gmail.com Usually our adoption fee is 395.00, but for this guy it will only be $95.00. We do need to charge the $95.00 to ensure that he is going to a good home. (Less)

Hello, I'm Sammy. I am 8 years old and love attention. Looking for a loving home where people have some time each day to give me attention. My current owners, sadly, are having financial problems and are very busy. They want to find an excellent home for me because they love me lots. Here is the basic information on me: - My birthday is 1/10/2008. - My last comprehensive exam was done on 11/09/15. All records are available either through my current family or at Banfield (in Pet Smart). - My weight in November was 16.4 lbs, considered 'ideal'. - I do have problems with thunder, but do have a 'thunder shirt' to help me feel better.

lnteresting Pekingese Trivia Low-Cost Colorado Spay & Neuter Clinics
The Pekingese was once believed to be able to ward off evil spirits. All modern Pekingese are descended from five dogs rescued for Queen Victoria during the Second Opium War. When British troops reached the residence of the Chinese Emperor, the guards killed all but these five dogs to prevent them falling into the hands of the enemy. Pekingese were believed to protect the soul of their master in the afterlife.
